Muunda Mudenda

I am a researcher and creative catalyst building a career at the intersection of industry, academia, and government. With expertise in natural products research, I focus on ideation, product development, and advocacy. At the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) in Zambia and previously at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), I have led research in design, development, and validation, while also mentoring university students to position themselves for innovation and employability.

I have successfully led teams in East Africa through ideation, product development, and funding acquisition, including pitches and demo days. My passion for research, innovation, and advocacy has guided my work with global organizations as a regional promoter for iGEM Africa, Hult Prize On-Campus Director, and Science Policy Advocate trained by ASBMB and the University of California, Irvine.

I believe Africa’s development depends on challenging the status quo and creating enabling environments for young scientists. This drives my advocacy for research, innovation, and policy that empower the next generation of African scientists. Beyond work, I enjoy traveling, hiking, playing guitar, and connecting with people. I thrive on collaboration and welcome opportunities to contribute to transformative projects across the continent.
