Dr. Rose Atieno Opiyo

I am a passionate behavioral scientist-practitioner, skillfully balancing my time between training, consulting, mentorship, writing, research, and teaching in the Behavioral Sciences, with a strong focus on Early Childhood Education and Development.

I lead the Unit of Strategic and Institutional Planning at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. I hold a PhD in Education from Kenyatta University and a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. I design innovative strategies to advance and achieve the university’s vision.

As a Senior Lecturer and Trainer of Trainers in Early Childhood Education and inclusive education, I am deeply committed to implementation science and evaluation research that drives social impact. My local and regional projects focus on promoting the well-being of underserved populations.

I have delivered over 40 scientific addresses and co-authored more than 50 scientific publications, including conference proceedings and book chapters in global academic forums. Additionally, I provide technical advisory services to Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) agencies on improving school readiness, advancing nurturing care, and implementing policy reforms.

With extensive academic and research experience, I have successfully secured national and international funding, coordinated multi-country and multi-institutional projects, and mentored early-career scholars. My leadership and international impact have earned me numerous accolades and prestigious research excellence scholarships, including awards from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP), the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development (ISSBD), and the John Templeton Foundation’s Best Abstract Award.
